The Farnham Beer Project is an initiative of Transition Farnham, part of the global Transition movement which aims at promoting community resilience  and empowerment in a rapidly changing world. Transition is about communities taking local action for global change or, as some say, “thinking globally, acting locally”.  There is plenty more about this at

The Beer Project is a step towards this by re-localising a small part of our food system, in this case, growing the hops for a community beer. At the heart of the project are the Farnham Hoppers who will elect to grow a hop plant, cultivating it with lots of TLC and at the end of the season harvesting the hop blossom for a local brewer to transform into a glorious green beer!

This great, new project is a wonderfully simple idea yet rich in its promise of collaboration among Farnham Hoppers, all of which will be celebrated in a Green Beerfest in October ’14.

It is a project designed to be fun and much of this blog, and a facebook page too, will be dedicated to that.
